If your child comes down with symptoms of COVID-19 or is ill please proceed with the following steps.
What Do I Do Next?
If you child is at school when these symptoms develop the school will notify you to pick your child up. Mecca Glen has a spot in the library where your child will wait until you are able to pick them up from school. If your child develops the symptoms at home DO NOT SEND THEM TO SCHOOL. Siblings who are not showing any symptoms may stay at school.
If you have any of these symptoms you are legally required to isolate for at least 10 days from the start of your symptoms or until they resolve, whichever is longer:
Cough (new cough or worsening chronic
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
(new or worsening)
If you have any of these other symptoms, stay home and minimize your contact with others until your symptoms resolve:
Muscle or joint aches
Feeling unwell, fatigue or severe exhaustion
Gastrointestinal symptoms (nausea,
vomiting, diarrhea or unexplained loss of
Loss of sense of smell or taste
Conjunctivitis, commonly known as pink eye
The Alberta Government and Alberta Health Services advises anyone with symptoms of COVID-19 get tested. Any student who has developed symptoms of COVID -19 needs to stay home and minimize contact with others until the symptoms resolve. The Alberta Government states that if you have any symptoms of COVID -19 you need to isolate for at least 10 days from the start of your symptoms or until symptoms resolve, whichever is longer.
If the student tests positive for COVID-19 they are legally required to isolate for a minimum of 10 days. Close contacts of a person who tests positive are legally required to isolate for 14 days and monitor symptoms.
If you have symptoms but test negative and have no known exposure to the virus you are not legally obligated to isolate but can only return to school when symptoms resolve.
If your child suffers from allergies/asthma or other known conditions that may present similar to COVID - 19 symptoms, please provide the school with a doctors note outlining potential symptoms. This information will be used as a reference point when students display symptoms.
